4x04: Acceptance

OMFG!?
:O

Swoosie Kurtz is so amazing. Can we keep her?

There is a model fighter jet in Nathan's office. Excuse me while I die from cute. WHYYY DO THEY KEEP DOING THESE THINGS TO ENDEAR HIM TO ME? Bastards.

Also Kimiko is freaking adorable. She and Hiro nearly made me cry towards the end.

Nathanites Never Say Die
Wtf happened to the body anywayz?!??!

lol, but seriously. NEVER EVER.

...

Hmph.

It's almost sad how hard Angela tried to help Sylar keep ahold of Nathan's persona. And as a side note, the lengths she went to, whether justified or not, to ~protect~ her children are truly astounding.

I like to think coming clean about the accident and telling the truth to Kelly's mother is the same decision Nathan would have made, and I'm comforted in this by the fact before he died, Nathan was rather keen on ~redempting~ himself. But I guess we'll never know.

Peter's going to be so sorry he dodged his calls for so long. Speaking of which, can Peter please find out about his brother's death now? Please? (Claire would be nice too, but I know not to expect too much.)

I enjoyed the flashbacks, and I was MOST PLEASED indeed to see how much Nathan looked like his son Monty as a child. ("Who is Monty Petrelli?!! KILL YOURSELF!") Of all places to find continuity... It was a neat surprise.

Mohinder Watch
Have you seen a sexy geneticist?

Nothing to report.

The fail. It is spectacular.

Okay, cool.
(I begrudgingly liked this...)

Not gonna lie, I liked about 90% of this episode although it feels a little long upon rewatch.

The ~Nathan stuff was actually good, if rushed (by which I mean it could have been stretched over several episodes). I loved all the scenes between ~Nathan and Angela, ~Nathan and Millie, Angela and Millie, and, of course, ~Nathan and Peter. (Yes, that's all of Pasdar's scenes, don't judge me.) More specifically, I love that ~Nathan was calling Angela out on her shady business, I love that the widely(?) suspected Haitian-ing of Petrelli boys is now canon, I love that ~Nathan didn't sell Angela out to Millie ("covered up by my... family"), I love Peter's outright wonderment at ~Nathan's "new" powers, I love that Nathan always was "overly theatrical" (a trait he shared with Sylar, y/n?), and I loved the editing of those last scenes around the notion of closure. I love I love I love.

Meanwhile in Tokyo, Hiro is being stubborn and refusing to ~face his destiny~, which I thought made a lot of sense given his characterization thus far. I was afraid his ultimate success in saving Tadashi, at the FORTY-SEVENTH TRY, would push him to carry on ignoring the causes and effects of his illness. It made his eventual acceptance (o hai chapter title) all the more resonant, gave it more weight. And though Kimiko hugging her little brother made me tear up, it is somehow Ando who continually breaks my heart. I've never actively resented Hiro, but if only just to see the ~emancipation~ of Ando, I'm hoping he does actually die when this arc finishes its course. Now, if I said I wasn't excited to see where he zapped off to in his last scene, I would be telling lies.

I also kind of enjoyed the HRG and Claire scenes. The parent-kid role-reversal is a little weird, but while I'm saddened by the Bennets' divorce, I'm quite interested to see how Noah copes. What can I say, I'm a sucker for drama. And so I thought his face when offering Claire a bowl of cereal was priceless lulz, and his passing aimlessness very human. Having said that, plan-less HRG is a sad thing, so I'm okay with him getting back in the swing of things - and the carnies coming after him, I guess.

I call shenanigans!
(... but let me tell you how you still suck.)

WHERE WAS HESAM? lmao. I care about the guy, I'm sorry.

The pacing was all over the place. While it seems only a few hours passed in HRG's and Hiro's scenes, it also felt like Tracy and ~Nathan's stories spanned over a couple of days. Confusing.

Tracy's story felt a little off. The way she and Malden interacted didn't add up with how they were before. And what was with that music in the beginning? lolwat. "Body double?" Har har, I c whut u did thar... :| But seriously, was the bath scene absolutely necessary? That's precious airtime that could have easily gone to Mohinder (or Hesam :p). Haha, at some point when Tracy was in the restroom looking in the mirror, I thought Jessica was going to be like, 'sup! Which would have made me cringe forever, but also brought the lulz.

Carnival scene = random much? lol. Having said that, Lydia didn't grate as much as I'd anticipated. I... actually think I like Edgar least of them all for now. I'll also take this opportunity to reiterate how lame I think it is that the Sprint commercials storyline isn't a part of the main show. Lame.

Brain Crumbs
Scattered thoughts

Starting with live thoughts as I was watching (these are some of the comments I made on the ongoing post @ [livejournal.com profile] fly_by_day last night)

- OMFG BABY NATHAN!! MONTY LOOKS JUST LIKE HIM BTW AWWW
- OMG NATHAN HAD A FLASHBACK TO THE MELROSE PLACE v2 PILOT :O
- FISHING EXPEDITION, IS THAT WHAT THEY CALL ~IT~ THESE DAYS? XD
- I LIKE CLAIRE'S HAIR
- I LOVE ANDO SO FREAKING MUCH
- LOL OUR STREAM IS SO LAGGY, WE DON'T GET HALF OF WHAT'S GOING ON IN HIRO/ANDO SCENES
- ALSO, CHARACTER CONTINUITY! YOUNG NATHAN WAS ALREADY KEEN ON DRINKING.
- LIKE DUH! WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MINDS WOULD RUN AWAY FROM NATHAN FUCKING PETRELLI?
- COSMOS? WHAT ABOUT APPLE MARTINIS?
- EDGAR'S HAIR MAKES ME LOL

Also I hope Claire doesn't make a habit of delivering ~pearls of wisdom~ because that was just weird.

I kind of want HRG and Peter to go on the road together though, for reals. Hesam can tag along, or maybe pine and pine until Peter returns to him.

I wish we could keep Swoosie Kurtz. I don't mind her when she's not putting hits on my ~favorite characters~. Besides, I'm sure there's a mine of backstory with Angela.

Hotass o' The Week
Half the reason I keep watching

~Nathan

HBIC o' The Week
Head Bitch In Charge

Millie Hudson, no contest. How badass! Runner-up: Angela. But that's like her natural status.

Ship o' The Week
lol romance?

Ando/Kimiko. Not that there were a myriad contenders this week, but I love them anyways.

Best line
I may or may not quote this irl

"I'm just waiting for the part that makes any of this okay..."
This is how I feel about the show most of the time, LOL.

There was some good stuff this week, especially from Angela; and I'm pretty sure Jack Coleman's delivery can make any line sound awesome.

Most burning question?
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!! *flails*

HOW LONG TILL OUR UNWORTHY EYES SHALL FALL UPON THE PASDAR AGAIN? ;_;

...

Ahem. I mean. Where has Hiro unwittingly teleported himself, and is Mohinder there? :O

Overall,
I loved this episode. It was my favorite of the volume so far. Possibly for shallow reasons. I don't care.

NATHAN IS BACK.

This pleased me more than it should, I fear.

WAIT. NO. IT PLEASED ME.

Nathan's return MADE THE EPISODE.

Tbh, the promo for next week's episode with Sylar being utterly confused and all "I didn't kill my mother!? o_O" looks really interesting but... I'm gonna miss Pasdar's ~Nathan so freaking much. :/

Hesam needs to keep hope alive. He is after all a paramedic, and we all know how ~moody~ Peter can get, lol. <3

hahahahahahaha

this post made me laugh so much. I thought it was a good episode but the pacing was definitely weird. And I agree the Nathan stuff could have been stretched out a bit more. I would have enjoyed that.

and gawd, Pasdar was looking so unf'able. I will be sad until his face shows up again.

At least we know for a fact he does show up again, right? That's something.

And Sylar's upcoming scenes look mighty interesting, be they what we saw in the preview for next week, or other stuff we know is coming up. I am most intrigued! (It's a fine line, though. I hope he doesn't revert to full-on ~innocent Gabriel Gray~)

HRG will be back, more badass than ever. No more emo!HRG!

LOL at the Mohinder watch!

Aw, I didn't mind emo!HRG just for a little while. But of course, action!HRG is always the best. OMG, I just can't wait for scenes between HRG and Samuel! :D

Mohinder hasn't been seen in so very long. ;_; WHY DOESN'T ANYONE ON THE SHOW WORRY ABOUT HIM MORE? I mean, wtf, shouldn't ~Nathan have gone to him with this whole slew of new powers?

Date: 2009-10-07 10:51 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dref22.livejournal.com
Oh yes, Samual and HRG. I too can't wait or that!!!

Was Sendhil working on another project or something?

He was indeed, lmao. But still! If ~Nathan left messages on Peter's answering machine, it would have been just as easy for him to call Mohinder even if no one answered, or even just mention it to Peter or Angela at some point. *facepalm*

Also I miss the days when he and HRG were plotting to take down the Company. <3

Oh, I'm almost going to wish HRG to become darker...He's definitely more fun that the emo one. But, I'll always want him to say that cheesy "I love you, Clairebear" line. ♥
LOL!

HRG at his darkest is pretty freaking scary, but I love it! I think now would be a good time for him to go dark gray again, yes. I'll co-sign that petition! :D

(In same "needs more evil" category: Matt Parkman! I wanted him to abuse his power so bad in S2, and I still do.)

LOL (at so much in this post)

I'm completely with you on most things (and u totally quoted my favourite line in your subject XD )

You know what though? I am so completely in denail LOL Pasdar IS Nathan - there's no two ways about it. So the entire time I'm watching this, to me I'm just watching Nathan with Sylar's powers (LOLZ I'm living in Peter's head XD I really like seeing them together again) that he magically gained from somewhere in some plot line that was written and should have been screened instead of what REALLY happened. Love the Nathan flashbacks too. Teen!Nathan I thought really idealised him.

Um oh you know how shallow I am? So much love for Ando that I kind of wanted to see the proposal scene and not the repitition of asking Hiro to walk Kimoko down the aisle :$ I'm excited to see where Hiro is going too (cause I am seriously hoping he's not going to be making lame save attempts for the rest of his life when he's got his own life to clean up)

Haha, I loved that whole scene, lol.
"What I wanna know is why I can't remember any of it."
"What makes you think I should know?"
"Because every time there's a secret buried some place, I find you with a shovel behind your back."
"You should write Mother's Day cards."

LMFAO!!! I love how Cristine and Adrian played it, too. OMG. I love them so much. XD

I'm living in Peter's head
Awww, such a bittersweet image. I want to be in denial too! I want to believe this guy is still "our" Nathan, but I have to remind myself he isn't if I don't want to end up too upset at his umpteenth death.

And that's not shallow! I wish Ando would get a lot more focus, too. If Hiro dies, maybe he finally will.

THE ONLY THING I REMEMBER ABOUT THIS EPISODE IS THE PETRELLICEST.

PARTICULARLY PETER'S EXCUSE FOR NOT RETURNING NATHAN'S CALLS: "I'M SO SORRY, MAN, I'M SO SORRY. I'VE BEEN SLAMMED..."

OIC PETER. YOU'VE BEEN ~SLAMMED~ BY HESAM

IN CONCLUSION: PETER IS A H0R.

Aww, yeah, the flashbacks were cute. ^_^ I just wish Peter was in them. I bet he wouldv'e been adorable. <3

Yup, I agree with pretty much everything else you said up there. Peter better find out about Nathan soon or I'll be really mad. -_-

Oh man, I really hope we get flashbacks to wee Peter someday! I'm guessing when wee Nathan was playing with the toy plane, Peter hadn't been born yet or was just a baby. (Nathan looked about 10-11 and that's their canon age difference.)

Dude, if The Pasdar bails, I bail. Simple as that. I love Angela and Noah, but Sylar is beginning to annoy me despite ZQ being hot and the overall FAIL of this show's writing has really gotten to me. (Kitty isn't taking any more shit, sorry.)

But I'll watch pretty much anything involving Adrian - I even suffered through Mysterious Ways (although admittedly I only watched Season 2 once, it was THAT terrible - the only highlight was that EPIC faceplant on the grass that makes me laugh every time), which as a hardcore atheist cynic made me want to throw things at the screen. And the episode where Declan kept pushing this woman to talk to/ connect with/ whatever her abusive father? ... ASDFGHJKL OH GOD CAN I BEAT THIS PRICK OVER THE HEAD WITH A CHAIR NOW PLEASE?!?! ( /not enough money in the world for all the therapy I need)

So... yeeeeah, I'll be sticking around for a while yet I guess. (... Mostly for the lulz, though. Because damn, Heroes went over the Niagara Falls of ridiculous years ago.)

Although if Profit 2.0 ever gets made, I'll be a very, VERY happy bunny indeed. He plays "creepy, manipulative self-serving ASSHOLE who gets shit done" just... so... well... and I think I'm wearing my DVDs of the show out.

"Worldly wise shaman" Claire just got on my nerves. Please STOP trying to make her important/ relevant already, writers, nobody cares. She's just the blonde eye-candy, like Tracy and Niki. "Save the cheerleader, save the world" was four years ago and still failed.

And I want Big Bad Ruthless Papa Wolf Noah back - ok, so needy woobie Noah is cute, but we already have Peter/ Sylar for all our emo whiny needs.

All the badasses/ SOB's in this show are killed off/ retconned/ lobotomised/ badly written (Adam Monroe and Elle Bishop, Nathan - after How To Stop An Exploding Man, he just wasn't our "shark" Nathan any more -, Arthur Petrelli who was completely pointless, and Sylar took a good idea and went on too long with it. ... Much like the show itself. Oy. And JUST when he was becoming relevant again, they pulled the Sythan crap. :: wince :: ).

It's... become depressing. Seriously.

(When SUPERNATURAL, which everyone was taking the PISS out of two years ago, has better characters and plots and is watched for the story and character development rather than one actor having a nice ass, you have failed in a BIG way... Just saying.)

And Tracy just needs to gtfo, I liked her last season (as she reminded me of HBIC Jessica) but now they're turning her into whiny clueless annoying Niki again and it's making me want to drive my fist into something hard.

Good thing for this show I need my Pasdar fix like Zydrate, or I'd not care any more. (Which is why I kind of want him to leave already so I can stop denting my desk by banging my head into it so hard. SYNAESTHESIA ISN'T A SUPERPOWER, KRING. Just saying. What next, the ability to roll your tongue? Sheesh.)

The only saving grace is that he's been having so much FUN as Sythan - the confused look and "... do I like sushi?!" in the first episode? PRICELESS. XD

Tell me about it. I love Zachary Quinto dearly, but the writing of Sylar has annoyed me since early season 3. :\ It's a shame, they're doing a disservice to Quinto, to Sylar, to the show, and to themselves. Any and all good graces earned with his previous, fascinating depictions went out the window the moment they came up with ~*~Teh Hunger~*~ - and it all went downhill from there.

I never finished S2 of Mysterious Ways, but I won't lie, I love Declan. The show wasn't exactly stellar, but sometimes a klutzy lunatic prof portrayed by one of your fav. actors is just amazing. XD It helps that I was never so involved with the series, I couldn't ignore whatever bugged me about it.

Profit was criminally short-lived, and my FOX hate is forever unrivaled. I can't say I'm very attached to Jim Profit, but he was a riveting character to watch and it's a shame we never got to see more of his ~adventures.

I've realized Heroes just can't do badass properly. HRG and Angela, who occasionally qualify as such, are everyone's favorite characters. Sylar who used to qualify as a superb badass is now a joke. Arthur always was a joke. Adam is dead. Tracy has just become Niki v2. And as you said, Nathan lost any element of threat after S1 (I didn't mind this as I enjoyed the character development, but the point stands). It's like the writers can't commit to crafting and expanding on true badass characters, and yet continually bite off more than they can chew in that respect.

And that sums up a lot of the fail found in the show, really. They won't follow through with their good ideas. "Generations" hardly explored the theme advertised, likewise "Villains". They retcon their own mytharc a dozen times a season. They keep confusing dramatic climax with gratuitously ~killing~ characters. And, again, ADAM MONROE IS DEAD. This was my biggest "what the hell were the writers smoking?" moment in the whole history of the show. (And there were many such moments.)

Very depressing, indeed.

(Supernatural is downright impressive in comparison - and even on its own feet, man. Kripke hears what the fans are saying and DOESN'T FUCKING CARE. He sticks to his guns, tells his story, and damn it's a good story so far. Kripke puts Kring to shame any day of the week, and twice on Sundays. True story.)

And yeah, the idea synaesthesia as a power is just baffling. I don't blame Bryan Fuller for leaving again. He probably saw the outline for this last episode, read what Kring was doing to Ni--I mean Tracy, and thought F U guys, why do I even bother?

I'm trying to retain a somewhat positive outlook on the show, but I swear they make it really hard sometimes.

Me too! I know Sendhil Ramamurthy was busy working on other projects when they started shooting this season, but it couldn't have hurt to at least give a reason for Mohinder's absence from the show. It kind of feels like nobody even cares right now. :/
