Fanmix: House, MD - House/Wilson - HoW to sin successfully
I made a new fanmix! Whoo!
HoW to sin successfully

(Yes, it's crap. I know.)
Now's explanation time! If you're only here for the free music, please feel free to skip to the end. ;)
The concept of this fanmix is it's all in Wilson's head. At any point in the many years he's known House, I imagined he might have entertained the thought that they could take their relationship beyond the boundaries of conventional friendship and become something else. Consequentially, all of these are either Wilson's point of view, or Wilson's perception of what House's point of view would be, were those fantasies of his to come to life. Yeah, I like my Wilson tortured. ;)
001. [begin - ben lee]
i'm thinkin' about desire
i've had to learn how to sin successfully
i'm thinking about bliss
and bliss is all dressed up and there's no one to dance with
(...) and it's okay for you to care
'cause i can feel you in the air
and while you wonder if you should let me in
i only want it to begin...
I've mostly picked this as an opener for the "it's okay for you to care/i only want it to begin" bits. The direct references to the city didn't bother me enough to disqualify the song, given that it's grossly the next town over from Princeton. :p Plus, it's not totally unthinkable that Wilson might have worked/lived there any length of time in his life. 'Cause this is basically fiction and anything's possible and all. Why not, eh?Also, the lyrics may certainly be interpreted as the singer being a shameless manslut - a heavy-hearted, wounded manslut at that. Hee! And honestly, "all straight things must bend" was far too good to pass up. (This gutter? So comfy.) Stop talking now? You bet.
002. [it is safe - matt pond pa]
let's give it some meaning
even if it is shallow,
even if it is fake
it is safe
as long as i see way out in the water
with no thought of going under
we could be out here for hours...
House would need some warming up to the idea, some dangling of his feet in the water, and Wilson would try and goad him into jumping from the high dive, carefree and oblivious to any possible consequences. Let's go for a swim!
003. [i wouldn't mind - duncan sheik]
i wouldn't mind
if all my b plans fell apart,
left me empty-handed
i'll start again like new
if you're with me, how can i lose...
Wilson admits, to himself and to House, it wouldn't be so terrible of a thing to find out he's in love and wants to be with him.
004. [drugs or me - jimmy eat world]
stay with me, you're the one i need
you make the hardest things seem easy
keep my heart somewhere drugs don't go
where the sunshine slows
always keep me close...
Ah, but those pesky little drugs! Wilson, hero complex and meddler extraordinaire, would of course try to talk House out of his habit, justifying it with claims that House just isn't who he used to be and pleas that he needs him back.
005. [apology - our lady peace]
you, you're the sea
i'm the waves crashing
on the ground, the ground under your feet
i'm a liar, a thief, and i'm an apology...
And in case that was pushing too far, too fast, too soon, there's an apology, a proclamation of admiration, trust and co-reliance.
006. [need you here - jude]
where does it go when you're away?
why does the world get in our way?
maybe tonight it will be clear
open your eyes, i have no fear...
This is the obligatory could-not-not-include song of the mix. I wanted it on it, though I can't specifically rationalize it. Except for the fact, you know, after Wilson's had a taste of House, he wouldn't ever want to let go and he'd make it a known fact. Or something.
007. [vampire heart - tom mcrae]
darlin' i'm lost, a drift in the dark
i'm clutching your wound to my vampire heart (one more)
so let in the light, turn me to dust
if it don't end in bloodshed, yeah, it's probably not love...
What was it again about Wilson feeding off of people's neediness? I love how depressing and hopeless this is (so I'm twisted, so what). It's as if he'd know, he'd know the relationship isn't entirely healthy, and that it's probably doomed to end sourly, but couldn't walk away because it's House, and he's Wilson, and... *guh*.And also, Tom McRae is my boyfriend.
008. [you're my only home - magnetic fields]
i will stay if you let me stay
and i will go if you let me go
but i won't go far away
because you're my only home...
Submissive!Wilson will do as House tells him, whatever the cost. He's helpless to do anything else.
009. [pills - the perishers]
one may say we're alright
but we need pills to sleep at night
and we need lies to make it through the day
we're not okay...
Buuuuuut but but. Try as he might, of course things'd never ever be right. (I said, I like my Wilson tortured.) And try as he might to shield House from *that,* at some point something is bound to break. It makes him ache, but he'll take it as long as House doesn't have to suffer from it. Because wasn't he the one who pushed House into this relationship to begin with, anyway? (Hello, torture!)
010. [what if you - joshua radin]
for tonight i'll lay here with you
but when the sun hits your eyes through your window
there'll be nothing you can do...
Until he just can't stay anymore. Not for lack of love, mind you, just that the (unexpected) burnout got to be too hard on the both of them. Wilson needs to go, and hopes in earnest that House doesn't begrudge him for it.
011. [the boy's gone - jason mraz]
the boy's gone, the boy's gone home
what will happen to a face in the crowd when it finally gets too crowded?
and what will happen to the origins of sound after all the sounds have sounded?
well, i hope i never have to see that day
but by god, i know it's headed our way
so i better be happy now that the boy's gone home...
A hopelessly optimistic Wilson would want for House to get over a breakup of theirs without any permanent damage, and move on with a healthy and bright outlook on life. (Yeah, as if! Psheesh, that Wilson... ;))And Jason Mraz is my luvar.
012. [you belong to me - strays don't sleep]
see the marketplace in old algiers
send me photographs and souvenirs
just remember when a dream appears
you belong to me
i'll be so alone without you
maybe you'll be lonesome too, and blue...
No matter what, theirs is a bond that cannot be so easily broken, and they'll forever acknowledge one another as their one and only. Adding to the stupid-screwed-upness of their continuing friendship. Yay!
013. [proof - i am kloot]
hey, could you stand another drink?
i'm better when i don't think
seems to get me through
say, do you wanna spin another line
like we had a good time?
not that i need proof
hey, heard you read another book
shoulda taken another look
who am i without you...
The ultimate platonic friendship song, with so much is said in such few lines. There's huge feeling in just the couple chords and same 12 lines and lalala's... This is a song that has "omgBFF!!1!" written all over it, and still manages to remain manly enough that I think it would apply in this here-depicted situation. And I mean, don't you just love how "I" will only have another drink if "you" can stand it? Totally sweet. Plus, duh, "who am I without you?" Lalalalala! (And this little write-up has more words in it than the song itself. Meep!) Oh, and I thought it'd make a great closing anthem, but I couldn't resist adding another track mirrorring the opening:
014. [it's okay to think about ending - earlimart]
it's okay to think about ending
and it's okay to not even start
put it away, away 'til tomorrow
put it away and take care of your heart...
This is like "Begin" in reverse, really. Slower tempo, inverted sentiment, and I also like to see it as a big giant "so, we're okay?" understanding statement. It's when Wilson finally realizes it might not be the trouble going through all of the above steps to appreciate what a rich and fulfilling bond he and House already have. It's when he decides, every time, not to take that final tentative step in the direction of romance, and keep his fantasy to himself.(But who knows, one day... One day he might get sick of the song, heh.)
And now if I haven't bored you all to death with all of that, please help yourself tothe download link. Re-upped soon! 'Tis a zip archive, approximately 50MB in size, and all tracks are in mp3 format. Enjoy! :)
ETA: individual song links now up!
