I just got back from seeing X-Men: The Last Stand. Yes, huzzah for my local theater! Well, I'm not going to spoil any, but the short of it is, I had high expectations for it and it left me utterly underwhelmed. If not all-out pissed-off, I'm still deciding.
The beginning is all right, and then it quickly fades into the "Who the hell wrote this sub-drivel?" show. The dialogue is cheesy double-fat cheese cheese, and good gravy! The characterization! *brain fries* Basically, EVERY ONE was dumbed-down as low as they possibly could stoop, until they were conveniently disposed of, one by one. I cannot believe some of the crap that happens to them. It's like, *blinkblinkjawdrop* That didn't just happen. *blinkblink* *facepalm* *cringe* And okay, Storm's eyes turn white when she changes the weather, WE KNOW THAT ALREADY. Can we say "annoying"? (Oh yes, we most definitely can. Sheesh.) And the timeline is definitely the most screwed-up I've ever witnessed in my LIFE. Laughable, really.
On thebright? side, there were quite a few Typical Fangirl Moments. Which isn't the most intelligible reaction you expect a movie to create, anyway. I highly doubt this was the type filmmakers had in mind: omgthehood!!*gasp*OMG!! TEH!! HOOD!! adsdalkkajhkjh *deddedded* You'll know what I mean. I'm of the Hugh-J-is-sex-on-legs persuasion, by the way. Also, if you're a ship-whore like me - subtext ALL over the frakking place, it's crazy.
Final scene broke my heart, but the ending as a whole? Made me pinch myself. My gosh, I'm going to wake up and see the real thing tomorrow. And bam, end credits, lights, this was supposed to be it. Pfyeah. When I'm all bitched out about this, I'll watch my DVDs of the first two again and pretend this one never happened. Because, just... It shouldn't.
p.s. Angel = awesome. Too bad he was so outrageously underused.

Date: 2006-05-24 09:49 am (UTC)I never thought I'd enjoy the first movie so much. I went along with my brother because he practically begged me, and I really, really liked it. So then when X2 came out, I was all set-up for a disappointment and told myself, "I can't possibly enjoy it more than the first one." But I SO DID. I even went back to watch it again the next day, LMAO.
So, of course, my expectations for this new one were sky-high, and obviously that wasn't such a good thing. But if you get the chance, maybe give the first one and try, you might be surprised. :)

At least we get to stare at the Hugh. Gratuitous shots of Wolverine, yum. And the hair... Man, I love the hair, LOL.
