I LOVE PETER'S HAIR. And I love Peter. I just wanna hug him. :( He was all 'you're my brother and I love you' and Nathan was just like 'whatever.' Oh wait, not whatever - even worse: 'it's not what I would've done.' D: D: D: C'mon Nathan! Seriously, what've they done to him?! That is NOT Nathan. Nuh uh.
Hee! Hiro's little 'excuse me' before the punch was HILARIOUS. He's like the cutest thing ever. <333
I... beg to differ, actually. Not on Peter's hair (♥) or Hiro's line, mind you. I was really impressed with the Nathan characterization. When he tells Peter he wouldn't have saved him, had their places been reversed, I believe he means that he would not have gone against "everything [he] believed in" to save one person, and one who opposed his plans at that. The thing is, Nathan believes he's working for the greater good here, and Peter was thwarting his efforts. So, I don't think it's a personal jab at Peter, but I see it more as Nathan being appalled that his brother would abandon his cause for him. Which is all sorts of messed up and heartbreaking, too, if I think about it too long.
ANYWAY. I think it's going to be a loooooong hiatus with the online fandom for those of use who don't buy that Nathan is omg the devil incarnate. XD
Oh yes, what you said about Nathan makes so much sense, and it ties in perfectly with what he was saying to Knox before about how Peter will always be on the losing side, because he can't follow through based on mere principle if *people* are involved. And I do think that Nathan thinks that this makes Peter ineffectual--it means that he'll never be a visionary (which is probably why Arthur thought he'd be useless for any plans the Company had in mind.)
The thing is, Nathan believes he's working for the greater good here, and Peter was thwarting his efforts.
Aaah, I see. I've never really thought about that. I've just been all 'OMG NATAN PETER NOOOO! D:' but I really get what you're saying here. And that's a much nicer way of looking at things, too. Hee! Thank you, that helped me see things in a more positive light. :D I just hope they can both resolve this all soon and work together. I love 'em working together much more than when they're fighting (although, I have to say that I also enjoy all that angst quite a lot, too).
Well, the writing certainly left a lot to interpretation, so I can't blame you really. ;) This is how I see things because I have always taken a closer look at Nathan than probably any other character, and I'm confident in my observations for this reason.
Also, I'm with you on the liking them better together thing. ;) Going by the way they set things right again with Sylar this volume after they majorly twisted his character, or how they ultimately decided to let Daphne live (pretty sure she was the death E!Online's Kristin kept referring to) after hearing the fan reactions, I'm also quite confident they'll have Nathan and Peter back on solid ground, so to speak, before the next volume is through. Here's hoping!
But boy, it's going to be a taxing hiatus for me, fandom being mostly unanimous that zomg Nathan, that bastard sonuva, hates Peter and the world omg die die die... -_-
I am really disappointed, but I might still stick on board for now. Heroes... it hath broken my heart. ;_; Nathan. Why? WHY?
I LOL'd royally hard at the Ship o' the Week: Nathan/Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, because, yeah, he's really lost his mind and went koo-koo. Lead pipe, SERIOUSLY? Ah, oh well, at least Peter is still on the Petrelli love train.
So you got me curious: where is the nobility in the act of beating your brother with a lead pipe? I missed that. Because by the looks of things, it seems to be Nathan being so beyond being pissed off, and self hating, that he just couldn't take Peter telling him he's wrong, he's a tool, and opposing him anymore.
That particular outburst of violence had more to do with being human than anything else, methinks. I have a sort-of essay on the mind, which I think I'll be posting shortly, where I'll detail my view and why I don't think any of what Nathan's been up to in the past couple eps has been OOC.
(On a side note, do I detect slight aggressivity? I didn't swipe no lead pipes at nobody, heh. :p)
*nods* He did react out of his impulses. I think what he has been doing as of late is built on OOC, though. That severe turn from where he was before he was shot and where he was afterward just seemed wrong. He honestly seemed possessed. But maybe his slightly later assessment was correct: he is suffering from brain damage.
(Slight. Sorry about that. Yes, but on Buckshotwon, you suggested that I should rewatch the episode when I had said in my post that I wasn't yet ready for that. It has been mentally painful for me to watch Nathan's character progression this whole season. The last episode was the icing on the cake, but it started out with the first episode.)
Nathan's characterisation has been all over the place all season long so I'm gonna wait to see what they do with him in Fugitives before, you know, having him hung or something. Besides it's been the same for pretty much all the characters so... AAAnyway, one of the best episodes of the year so far... Can somebody tell me excatly why, in the name of everything that is good, Jeph Loeb got fired from this show ??? Wankers !!!

I agree with you on the overall quality of the episode. It was really good! :D
